Janson Hartfield at the State GeoBee
National Geographic GeoBee - State Competition

Janson Hartfield, an 8th grader at JMS, traveled to Columbia on Friday, March 29th to compete in the state competition of the National Geographic GeoBee.  He competed against 100 students from across the state who are "the best of the best" in regards to geography.

To qualify for this competition, he won the school competition, which took place in January, and then had to complete a qualifying exam to see if he would be invited to the state competition.  He received his invitation on March 4th stating that he did score high enough to take him on to the state portion.  We all knew Janson was going to be amazing!

On Friday, March 29th, he and his parents, John and Tina Hartfield, traveled to Columbia for the competition.  Once there, Janson shined!  He made it through the first round of prelimiaries and went on to be one of the Top 10.  He then amazed everyone further by making it to Top 5!

Although he did not win at the competition, he is the champion to everyone at JMS!  He went above and beyond and we are all extremely proud of him!

Way to go, Janson!  Thank you for representing JMS, and being a perfect example of the amazing students we have here in Johnsonville!
