Congratulations to our 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Leslie Powell!

During a faculty meeting on Monday, April 8, Mr. Willis announced the 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year for Johnsonville Middle School.  This teacher was nominated by the staff at JMS, and it could not have been awarded to anyone more deserving, Mrs. Leslie Powell!

Mrs. Powell has been the computer and IBA teacher at JMS for 20 years.  Several of the teachers that work at JMS today were former students of Mrs. Powell's who still remember the valuable lessons that she taught them in her class.  Mrs. Powell is a person who is passionate about teaching.  She brings so much life and personality to JMS and to everyone who has the pleasure to work with her or to learn in her classroom.

Not only does Mrs. Powell teach computer basics and IBA, but she is also the person who coordinates the weekly News Show and media class.  She is the inspiration that guides the students to understanding what goes into making an amazing show that highlights all of the events going on at JMS.  She works countless hours beyond those that are required to ensure that her students can be proud of what they have created.

Mrs. Powell is truly an educator who demonstrates the qualities of Teacher of the Year each and everyday without ever realizing how amazing she is.  20 years ago, Johnsonville gained a teacher who has touched the lives of every student who has come through Johnsonville Middle School since that day in a way that they never forget the lessons she teaches.

Congratulations Mrs. Leslie Powell!

We are so proud to call you our 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year!
