Academic Interventions are Closing the Achievement Gap in FSD5

Florence School District 5 showed progress in closing the achievement gap on the 2022 annual state assessments. 

Elementary highlights: (grades 3 and 4) 

The percentage of FSD5 elementary students scoring DNM (does not meet) in ELA on SC Ready decreased while the percentage of students scoring EXCEEDS increased.  
The percentage of 3rd graders scoring DNM (does not meet) decreased 6% from 2021 to 2022.  
The percentage of 4th graders scoring DNM (does not meet) decreased 4% from 2021 to 2022. 
When comparing same student growth, the number of students scoring EXCEEDS (the highest level) on the SC Ready ELA assessments increased 5% from 2021 to 2022.  
 
In math, 42 % of our 4th graders scored met and exceeds on the SC Ready Math assessment, almost meeting the state average of 43% met and above.   

Middle Level highlights: (grades 5-8)

All middle school grades showed growth in SC Ready ELA.
The percentage of 5th graders scoring DNM (does not meet) decreased by 4% from 2021 to 2022, while the percentage of students scoring EXCEEDS increased by 4% from 2021 to 2022. 
The percentage of 6th graders scoring DNM (does not meet) decreased by 3% from 2021 to 2022, while the percentage of students scoring met and above increased 17% from 2021 to 2022. 
The percentage of 7th graders scoring DNM (does not meet) decreased by 4% from 2021 to 2022.  When comparing same student growth, the number of students scoring met or above increased by 8%. 
The percentage of 8th graders scoring DNM (does not meet) decreased by 7% from 2021 to 2022. When comparing same student growth, the number of students scoring met or above increased by 8%.

In 6th grade Science, the percentage of students scoring met or above increased by 21% from 2021 to 2022 on SC PASS, while the percentage of students scoring DNM (does not meet) decreased by 20%.

“We are headed in the right direction.  Moving forward, we will continue our focused interventions in both ELA and Math and will concentrate on student engagement so that we continue to close the achievement gaps and recover learning loss.  We know our weak areas and have a plan in place to ensure that we continue to improve.”
